I’m pretty sure you’re making this up, and if you really did have a gator, you’d already know what to feed it. But, I’ll help anyway. Baby gators should be fed mostly crickets as well as pinky mice and minnows. Of course, they’re illegal in most places, but I’m sure you already know that.

Turn it over to look at the part that is not highly visible, put about a spoonful of cold water on it, and let it sit for about ten minutes. Then smell it. If it has that swampy odor to it then it is genuine alligator.

Yes, they are legal, but only with a permit from Texas Parks and Wildlife. They usually only give this permit to zoos and scientific institutions, and very rarely do they give one to private individuals. But you can legally own caimans and crocodilians without a permit in Texas. But it comes down to city ordinances. Most of the larger cities in Texas have ordinances against the ownership of a crocodilian in city limits. But if you live in the country or a small town, you can most likely own one. Just make sure to check your local ordinances. I had a dwarf caiman for years. They are the smallest crocodilian, only growing to 4 or 5 feet.

Alligators are generally calm and wont attack unless provoked. They’re regarded as ambush animals meaning that if they see you walking around and you look delicious they’ll lunge once and if you can escape that they’ll back off. Its actually pretty rare that an alligator would follow a human, and no Ive never heard that running in zig-zags helps but you’re welcome to try.
